| Fred-Report:
My foster parents spend quite a lot of time on Deck 13, so I decided to go and have a look what was going on there. I found them watching this strange thing, which I never have seen before in all my life – a “flowrider”
It seems, that it makes no difference if an experienced surfer gets on to this board, or an absolute beginner … all of them end wet.
And although the sportsmanager Mario told me, how cool it would be to ride the waves, my mind was made up – I would stay on the dry side.
One day there even was a challenge: Officers against passengers
As if that would be the most normal thing of the world, even Capt. Hendrik Loy took part.
Of course he earned great applause for his performance. And surely he is not a beginner … but as you can see on the photos, even he got wet and had a second try.
I saw my foster parents creeping out of the water quite often, but they seemed to enjoy it. That at least I could read from their smiles. They would like to say thank you to the sportsteam – you are really great.
Fred gets to know Capt. Henrik Loy personally!
During an official appointment, the „Captains chat in German“, we met him personally.
All German speaking guests were invited to this date and the Capt. gave answers to all the questions.
After this event was over, I introduced myself to him. I told him about my seafaring life and he gave me permission to go to have a look at the bridge.
The next day I arrived in time – you never let “your” Captain wait - and I got to know some of the officers aswell.
Of course I gladly exepted the offer, to steer this big cruise ship.
And although the radar showed no objects nearby, I had to take a look through the binoculars, before taking command.
Clear view – nothing in the way – full ahead ! was my plan. But Capt. Loy stopped my attempt. This would not work, because that would spill the water out of the pools.
Then I tried to do the steering. It is always fascinating to see, that large ships are been maneuvered only by a joystick.
I would like to say thank you for the warm welcome, the nice entry in my diary and the impressive visit to the bridge of the “Independence of the Seas”
